6 Slots with RTP over 98% - and Why That Matters
Newcomers to casinos are often confused between the terms house edge and Return To Player or RTP. In fact, the terms are the two sides of the same coin. RTP reflects the theoretical or mathematical return to player in percentage of bet returned over many plays. In effect, if a game has an RTP of 96% — and that’s roughly the average for video slots these days — that means that of 1000 coins wagered over many rounds or spins, the player can expect to get 960 coins back.
Of course, on any given day, or any given spin, the player can far exceed this average return. Or fall short of it. This is, after all, gambling.
House edge is the flip side of RTP, referring to the theoretical advantage that the casino enjoys in a game. In the example above, the house edge would be 4% (100%-96%). In practice, RTP is usually used for slots and other electronic games of chance, while house edge is more often used for table games.
While house edge for table games is transparent, the same cannot be said for slots. Game makers don’t often promote RTP, unless it is exceptionally high, though the information is often buried in terms and conditions. Savvy players can do a quick search RTP + the name of the game and get the answer.
Complicating matters is that some game makers – Play ‘n GO and Cryptologic among them — allow casinos to configure RTP to their liking. Play ‘n Go’s well-received Book of the Dead delivers a return ranging from 94 to just above 96% depending on where you play.
While countries with strict slot regulations discourage this practice, some more edgy licensing countries like Curacao have a more “liberal” policy, usually not to the player’s advantage. In such a case you confront a “cat in the sack”, never quite sure what the actual RTP is. Best advice is to stick with reputable casinos with a UK or Malta license, which are strict in regulating such practices.
The other thing, of course, is to make sure you do your research before you play for real money. Or save your time and check out our short list of 98% + RTP video games, as of May 2018. Make sure to play them at reputable casinos. So without further ado, our Top Six Slots over 98% RTP.
MegaJoker from NetEnt is in an RTP class of its own, reaching the astonishing 99% threshold. Not only that, the 3-reel, 5-line classic slot featuring fruit machine symbols. It also has a progressive mystery jackpot which delivers wins in the low five-figure range every few days, but only in the basic mode. The Supermeter mode ups the antes and allows wins of up to 2000 coins, but precludes winning the jackpot.
Jackpot 6000, another NetEnt classic fruit machine, is also way up there at 98.86%. Like Megajoker, this features two modes of play, basic and supermeter. This 3-reel 5-line slot features Jokers and a heads or tails double up option.
1429 Uncharted Seas from Thunderkick sails at a brisk 98.63% clip. This 5-reel, 25-payline video slot is sea-themed and features a nicely drawn map on a wooden background. Symbols include pictures drawn symbols such as ships, celestial objects, mermaids, etc.
Aladdin’s Lamp from Cryptologic is visually impressive, but the house edge is small. Give it a rub at 98% RTP. The video slot has 5 reels and 5 paylines, which pay in both directions. You can bet up to 5 coins per line. The slot maker allows casinos a high degree of configurability so, as the car dealers say: your mileage may vary. There are no wilds here. But 2 or more genies in a row will trigger a pick ‘em bonus feature where you can choose from among 5 lamps.
Reel in the Cash is another old-school slot from Cryptologic that can be landed for a whopping 98%. Go fishing in this 5-reel, 5-line video slot and you may come across lobsters, sea bass, crabs, or maybe an old boot. It’s not going to blow your socks off, but it is an oldie-but-goodie. Cast your line and hope to land a big one.
Jokerizer from the innovative Yggdrasil gets the last laugh with a 98% RTP. This 5-reel, 10-line video slot features fruit symbols an intriguing Joker Mystery Win. You need to land 3 jokers on the middle reels in the base game to win 1000 to 6000 credits. If your jokers are in a horizontal or diagonal line, you win the max. Then there’s Jokerizer mode: click on the oversized Joker button to kick off the bonus feature. Each spin takes 20 credits off what you just won, but you have a chance to win much more.
